Convener's Corner — December 2016

Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and had a chance to reflect on what each of us is truly thankful for. After Thanksgiving comes the inevitable "Black Friday" followed up with "Cyber Monday." Some places will have it for a week!! We go from giving thanks and appreciating what we have to the frenzied no holds barred insanity of running around shopping insanity! From one place to another to the next, picking up presents for friends, family and loved ones. Businesses lure people in with "Door Buster" deals and the like. We shop until we drop. Now is when we need to stop and take a look at what is happening to us.

It is now up to each of us to take time out and remember the real reason for the season. Getting and receiving gifts is nice, but when it's all said and done it's about the birth of Jesus our Lord and Savior. Born onto us to save us from our sins. Jesus was born a king, but he was also born a servant. If gifts get to be a greater priority than the celebration of the birth of our Savior, our priorities need to change.

In this season of joy and giving I want to also remind you that the Via de Cristo of Minnesota has sent out the appeal letter. This is the time of year the VDC humbly requests cheerful contributions from our 4th day community. I sincerely want to thank those who continually help us out financially and would like to ask every other person or family to contribute to the Minnesota Via de Cristo. Any amount would be GREATLY appreciated. Although larger donations are always great, many small amounts add up to a substantial amount to help us with our expenses. The generosity of the people of this organization in Minnesota is second to none! When the Minnesota VDC is challenged to step up and get a job done we do it! Think about times when a situation was not favorable. That is a time to pray and let God guide you as he has always provided for me. So I am asking you to do the same. Every bit counts. Thank you in advance.

Blessing and Merry Christmas!
