Convener's Corner — October 2013

I have been giving a lot of thought to change lately. There are changes all around us. As you look outside, the leaves are changing color, the temperatures are dipping a bit, football season is upon us, and children and young adults are back in school or college. For my family, change has definitely been at the forefront lately. Our youngest child went off to college this fall, leaving Sandy and me as "empty nesters". This is a big change in our home. We are also in the process of relocating to Duluth, Minnesota from the Twin Cities. When you have lived in the same place for 17 years, this is quite a change. But the one thing that I have realize through all of this change is that if we take just a few minutes every day to talk to God, we soon realize that He has not changed. He is still there for us - ready to listen and ready to answer prayers. There are many times over the past couple of months that I have found myself turning to God with prayer and questions. He has helped me get through the process of selling one home, buying another home, selling a business, and sending our children off to college. He has been calming and a great friend. Yes, change happens to us each and every day. God knows this, and that is why He is always there for us. What a great feeling!

As exciting as change can be, I am also very excited about the many upcoming weekends we are hosting. All three of our Districts have weekends scheduled over the next couple of months. Please plan on participating in these weekends by sponsoring someone, working on a team, joining us at a serenade or Clausura, or praying for all involved in the weekends. The weekend dates and sponsor applications can be found on the Lutheran Via de Cristo of Minnesota web site at

"If God is for us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:31

Blessings to all,
