Convener's Corner — February 2013

Instead of giving something up.....

I don't know about you, but Lent is my favorite part of the year for it is when we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! I have always found it interesting how during the Lent season, some of us are looking to give something up like chocolate or soda or whatever our vice may be. Rather, than give something up, use the celebration of Lent, to add something to your life that will strengthen your relationship with God! Instead of giving up chocolate, make a commitment to be in the Word every day. Instead of giving up soda, join a Renewal Group (or start one). This should not be the time of year when we are sacrificing something that we know is not going to last past April or May; but rather use this time of the year to re-engage and recommit to the journey that started with your Via de Cristo weekend. I once heard that in order for a habit to form, you need to repeat the behavior at least 42 times. Well, 42 times is about the same length of time as the Lent season.

So, rather than taking something out of your life or depriving yourself of something; add something to your life that will strengthen your relationship with Jesus Christ. A few examples were provided above; other ideas include starting a Bible Study, making a commitment to sponsor someone on a Via de Cristo weekend this year; or maybe it is to work a Via de Cristo team; or even to consider serving in a leadership role on the Via de Cristo Council or your District's subcommittee. There are many ways that you can add something to your life rather than take something away.

Speaking of the MN Via de Cristo Council, there are several openings on the Council. If you are interested in serving in one of the following positions, please complete an application and send it in to the State office. The application can be found on the Via de Cristo website. The open Council positions include:

Blessings to all during the Lenten celebration!
