Convener's Corner — October 2012

As I mentioned in the last newsletter, a gathering of 12 delegates, including me, had the honor of attending the National Lutheran Secretariat Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado, during the last week of July. It was truly a wonderful experience; we had the opportunity for worship, fellowship, learning, and celebrating. The Colorado 4th Day Community were truly gracious servants and hosts that week. It is so inspiring to see delegates from other Via de Cristo communities, to share stories with them, and to learn how they glorify God through this ministry. I think I can safely say, on behalf of the Minnesota contingent, that the trip was definitely worth it, and we all came back energized to move our ministry forward. Check out the Minnesota Via de Cristo website for a picture of the delegates who attended the annual meeting.

One of the goals of the Council this year is to reach out to the 4th Day Community and encourage increased participation in our ministry. We all know that we can serve by sponsoring a weekender or serving on team, but there are many others ways to share your gifts as well. A great way to become active in Via de Cristo and shape our future is to nominate yourself to be on the ballot for an open Council position. The role of the Council is to set the vision for and oversee the operations of Minnesota Via de Cristo. The Council positions are three-year terms, and we meet four times per year in person. Serving on the Council is very rewarding.

Another way to be involved in Via de Cristo is to work with your District by serving in a leadership role. Minnesota Lutheran Via de Cristo is comprised of three districts – North, Metro, and South. Each district has volunteer leaders who help in many ways, including palanca, music, supplies, church site selection, rector selection, etc. If you are interested in either running for an open council position or serving within a district, please send me an email at I would be happy to talk with you and learn more about your talents. In addition, information about the council positions and district volunteer positions is included on the Via de Cristo website.

Finally, members of the 4th Day Community can stay connected with others in our community by visiting our website often and following us on Facebook.

Grace to each of you!
