Convener's Corner — September 2012

Oh, how time flies. It seems like it was only yesterday and I was thinking about all of the things that I was going to accomplish this summer – the projects around the house, the day off here and there, and the rounds of golf that I was going to play this year! And here we are celebrating Labor Day Weekend and the “unofficial” end of summer. School is starting, fall sports are under way, football is in the air, and cool days of autumn are just around the corner. With the fall, comes a busy time for Via de Cristo as well. Given our busy Minnesota summers, we don’t hold weekends in the summer; but fall is a different story. In Minnesota, we have three sets of weekends that are currently in the planning stages. In mid October, there is a pair of weekends at Faith Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids; the same weekend, the North District will be hosting a set of weekends at Our Savior’s Lutheran in Duluth; and then in mid-November, the South District will be holding a co-ed weekend in Austin. Please keep these weekends, their team members, the 4th Day Community, and the weekenders in your daily prayers. Our weekends count on your support and prayers.

Regarding the upcoming weekends, I ask that you look for a way to get involved as well. You might want to consider giving palanca for the weekend; which could be food for the kitchen or your time. Your renewal group might assist with serving at the Agape Dinner or at the Second Setting. Sponsoring a weekender is a great way to get involved and help to continue this ministry. There are many ways to get involved and I urge you to prayerfully consider how you can be part of these weekends.

There is a very special opportunity to support our ministry in Southern Minnesota. On Saturday, September 29th, the Southern District is hosting a fundraiser at Bethel Lutheran Church in Northfield, MN. The Southern District is hosting this event to raise money to buy and stock their own Via de Cristo trailer. The South currently shares weekend supplies with the Metro which causes conflict on occasion. This is a great opportunity to help our ministry grow. The festivities begin at 2:00 p.m. and include entertainment, fellowship, a silent auction, and a dinner of grilled pork chops with all the fixings. I hope to see all of you there!

We want to keep this ministry thriving. The key to doing so is active involvement in Renewal Groups and Ultreyas. If you have not yet found a Renewal Group, keep searching for the right group or contact your church Via de Cristo liaison for assistance. Successful Renewal Groups result in enthusiastic members of the 4th Day! Let’s keep it going and build upon what we have.

Last, keep tabs with the latest happenings on Facebook!

Blessings to all,

Bob Cedergren
